F is for Fate!

i would like to think that everything happens for a reason. it just so happens that i tell this story several times a week to several different people. they ask how i met my husband and since i think its a very interesting subject, i launch into the story.

i had just returned from my LDS mission, and was looking for a job, i was bound and determined to work somewhere other than [insert Giant-Retail-Store here], the place i had so joyously quit (i thought forever) before my mission. i would not could not. so i applied EVERYWHERE else i could think would not be as bad as or worse than [G-R-S]. this began in the beginning of june. i was being supported by a small fund i had in my bank account, but it couldn't last forever. finally after several interviews, but no call backs, i figured it was just time for another round of resumes and applications. my dad didn't agree. he called me one day mid-july and said, "if you don't have a job within the week, you are going to end up moving home to [insert Smallest-Boringest-Town-Ever here]."
apparently i was more bound and determined to not live in [S-B-T-E] than i was to not work at [G-R-S], so i grudgingly brought an application and resume' to the newer store. if i was going to go to [G-R-S], i was at least NOT going back the the old one where i started! when i asked for a manager, a girl from [S-B-T-E] came up to the front. no way, could my luck be so good? she said she was the support manager (2nd rung up on the ladder) and i handed her my stuff, and left. and forgot about it. the next day the mother of a dear friend i had made working at the first [G-R-S] called me.
"hi! you're back from you mission huh? what are you doing?"
"nothing"
"i have an application here with your name on it, you want to work at [G-R-S]?"
(she was an assistant manager at this new [G-R-S], 3rd rung up)
"no"
"why did you apply?"
" i need a job"
"well come in! we'll take you!"
i straight up told my boss-to-be i didn't want to work there and she hired me anyway. when i went in i had references from the old [G-R-S] written down, but they were apparently not completely up to date, because now some of them worked overnights and were sleeping when she called them. she told me this news and suggested a little walk around the store, to see if we could find anyone i knew. (2nd, 3rd? thing that would NEVER happen in ANY other job interview) we found enough that worked with me before and were glad to put in a good word. when we returned to the back, the [S-B-T-E] girl and ANOTHER [S-B-T-E] girl were back there to INTERVIEW me. BOTH managers, rung 1, and rung 2 in this particular giant retail store ladder climb (4 rungs total)then my friend's mom on rung 3. i totally got the job. i just think its hilarious, considering how many other jobs i'd applied at and interviewed for, and then it was TOO easy to get in here.

HIS SIDE:
well, his story isn't as detailed, but is sort of the same, he applied only at four giant retailers who are all competitors with each other, and he has told me, "i decided that i would work for whomever called me first" G-R-S2 called him first and set up a day for an interview, but then [G-R-S] called and set up an interview/orientation for an earlier date than G-R-S2, so there you have it.

if these stories don't confirm your belief in fate, ok, whatever:)

still to go: e,g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n,o,p,q,r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z

Cute story Pixie, I had a friend who told me that I couldn't leave Craig until we had done what we had to do there, and that we might not know what that was. And when it was done, we wouldn't be able to stay.

We move here, and planned to move to the country.... and that so didn't work, and we stayed and raised you kids in the old house, and all of our fates unfolded. Aspen Leaf met her husband when at school, talking about you and his little brother.... yeah, it doesn't happen by chance, but the pattern is sometimes too complicated for us to see just where we are in the weave.
