n is for nuisance

nuisance is an excellent word to describe our home buying process! yes ladies and gentlemen, we BOUGHT A HOME!!!!

it all started while my nephew was napping and my sister was at the doctor, for her regular baby checkup. i was online, just browsing around on blueroof and looked in the neighborhood i used to live in, and found a house within my price range that looked pretty fantastic. so i copied the mls # and emailed it to my realtor, he had emailed us about a few houses that we were to walk through the following day. i suggested that if it were possible, we could take a look at this one too?

so the next day we met at this house. i like to keep in mind that this was something that i happened upon, sort of last minute. we arrived first (before our realtor) and as soon as we took a flyer from the box in the yard, my husband said, "lets put an offer on this house". i thought, "really?" but i let him go with his gut. we walked in a few minutes later and i felt too, that this should be our home. so after we tried to see the other houses our realtor had set up for us, (i say tried because we only got into one, the others either weren't home, or had things going on that we couldn't walk through), we got back to our car and told him we wanted to put in an offer. so we did, and he told us they had basically 24 hours to get back to us. so we decided to fast during their decision making time. around six p.m. the next day our realtor called to tell me someone else had also put in an offer.

:( boo. this whole process reminded me a lot of asking someone "will you go with me?" they say, "well, someone already asked me... so..."

so my realtor tells me that they instead of rejecting or accepting either offer, want to see if we can make an addendum to our offers.

now THIS part reminded me of the last part of jeopardy where no one says anything aloud, they write it down and lock in their answers and hope for the best, only they have a better idea of what the "right" answer might be... we had no idea. again, go back to the analogy you are asking someone to "go with" you, and instead of saying no, or yes, they say, "well, what will i get from going with you as opposed to going with someone else?" remember at this moment you don't really know this person, so you wouldn't know what to offer that they may like, but you have a friend you sort of knows one of their friends and your friend tells you, "try this".

so you do.

and now you have to wait ANOTHER 24 hours for a response.

by this time it is three days later, because we had to wait 24 hours from putting in an offer. then WE were allowed 24 hours to make an addendum and get it back to them, then THEY had 24 hours to decide on OUR addendum or the other person's.

our options were to 1: offer more money, or 2: offer to let them stay longer and lease from us until they are able to move (which SHOULD be early july, as they are building a house in montana) so we offered a little more money AND allowed them to stay AS LATE AS aug. 1.

at this point, our realtor said that the ball was in our court and once we caught it, the game was over. so we caught it, signed the papers, and we are IN. now its time to inspect and set up all payment plans. HOORAY!!!

YEA!!Yea You Two!! We are really happy for you. This is really cool. I think you will love having your own home. It is work some times, and kind of ties you down some, but there isn't any where that I would rather be than home. Be it ever so humble.
